The goal of attending college is something that should be possible for all students, including those on the autism spectrum. At Poppy life Care, one of the things we strive for as a community resource is to bring our special needs families together with the tools and resources to address their unique needs and concerns.
College consulting services for neurodiverse students are now available to Poppy Life Care families through a partnership recently developed with Janice Royal, founder of Costa Mesa, California-based Royal College Consulting
Janice worked as a Project Manager, Product Manager, and Marketing Manager for insurance companies over the course of nearly 20 years until her youngest child was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. Upon learning of her child’s diagnosis, she retired from the corporate world to learn everything about parenting, educating, and encouraging children who are neurodiverse. This journey led Janice to the area of college counseling, as she discovered that college planning resources were scarce for students living with ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, and other Learning Differences.
Royal College Consulting’s services available to Poppy Life Care families include comprehensive college planning, which, for ASD or LD students, may typically require a level of preparation that differs from that of neurotypical students.
“Academically I would say there’s a home for all shapes and sizes of students because there is such a spectrum of how a learning disability will affect a student,” says Janice Royal. “Just as each student is unique, so too should be their college plan. I spend time getting to know my students so that the planning process reflects their goals and aspirations. My goal is to help find the right college, university, or program for each student.”
Exclusively available to Poppy Life Care families is special pricing on Royal College Consulting’s regular Comprehensive College Planning and hourly fees.
